Psalm 46:10

Be still and know that I am God.

I read that verse one night while in the midst of some personal stress.  Though I was familiar with them, this time the words nearly took my breath away.  The verse's impact was greater than words can express.  It was as if I were in His very presence.  I understood at that moment that no evil dictator, no sudden downturn in the economy, no news of a horrible illness, nor any kind of natural calamity can intimidate God!  He has never been a victim of "fate", fraud, or financial ruin.  He is in absolute control.

What a powerful message in such a chaotic world!

A few months after meditating on this verse, a Christian friend came to talk with me.  Her teenage son had been shot in the head and his life, and future, hang in the balance.  The words of Psalm 46:10 came to me as I silently prayed for the Lord to give me His comforting words to share with her.  At first I hesitated, then shared how the Lord had calmed my heart with the words "Be still and know that I am God".  I could see a new light of hope come into her weary eyes as the words had the same effect on her.  (The Lord saved her son's life and continues to work in both their lives.)

When I frantically try to find "my" solution to one of life's difficulties, the Lord often brings this verse from the Holy Scriptures to my thoughts and it acts like a balm to my troubled soul.   He reminds me that God is not just "in the same boat" as me, He is the Master of the Sea!  And I have HOPE and CONFIDENCE in Him because I am His.

Be Still and know that I am God.   Share that Good News!
